    City Meet Details

Below are some important reminders and clarifications regarding City Meet. There is a lot of information here, but PLEASE READ! City Meet is an extremely large, but well organized swim meet. If you have questions please feel free to email Jill ([email protected]) or Coach Scott ([email protected]), or ask any seasoned swim parent. All locations below link to Google Maps.

    • There will be no Swim Team practices or Pre-Team lessons during City Meet: July 20 and July 21.
    • The meet is located at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the University of Tennessee campus. (2200 Andy Holt Ave, Knoxville TN)
    • Parking will be allowed in the parking garage across from the Allan Jones. A parking pass for the garage is $10 per day - purchased in advance through our team’s SwimTopia website. If you think at all your swimmer may be participating on Saturday, you need to purchase a parking pass for that day.
      • Free parking will be available at the Metron Center lot, off Kingston Pike. It is about a 3/4 mile walk to the pool. No shuttle service will be provided.
    • This is a VERY large meet (over 1,000 swimmers between the two days of competition) in a very large venue. Please don’t be discouraged or intimidated to enter because of this, but know that City Meet is a large-scale event and runs very differently from our dual meets.
    • The only qualification to enter in City Meet is to participate in two of our meets this summer. We encourage all swimmers to participate in City Meet! Participating in our July 17 meet does count, however we cannot use times from that meet. Attending the postponed meet on the night of June 20th does not count, as no one swam.
    • All parents/guardians of swimmers at City Meet must be willing to work at the meet. Do not sign your child up if you are not willing to fill a position. Refusal to work will cause GKAISA to fine the team and deduct points, and your family will not be allowed to attend SAC’s end of season banquet.
    • Between events, swimmers and family are expected to stay at the team tent, as seating is limited inside the aquatic center. Team tent location TBA, but it is typically on the service road between Allan Jones Aquatic Center and the Student Aquatic Center.
    • There are no age group coordinators for City Meet. Parents are responsible for getting their swimmers to the Clerk of Course area, directly behind Allan Jones. Parents are not allowed inside the Clerk of Course area or on the pool deck. Events will be called via loudspeaker to report to the Clerk of Course. You can also follow @GKAISAOFFICIAL on Twitter for up to date on the events and meet information.
    • City Meet t-shirts are available to order and will be delivered at City Meet; the proceeds from which go toward operating costs and senior scholarships. The purchase of a t-shirt is not required, and SAC does not provide City Meet t-shirts for the team. You may purchase a shirt through our team’s SwimTopia website.
      • There are two different t-shirts: one with names of swimmers 10-Under (Thursday shirt) and one with the names of swimmers 11- Up (Friday shirt). Be sure that you click on the correct shirt when placing your order.
    • Coaches will put swimmers in the event where they would score the most points. Coaches use the previous year’s results to estimate which event they would be most competitive in. Swimmers may be entered in a maximum of 4 total events, with a maximum of 2 relays and a maximum of 3 individual events. The pool is 25 yards long, which is about 10% shorter than our 25 meter pool. All entry times will be converted into a yards time.
    • Prelims take place on Thursday and Friday. The top 8 times in each event will qualify for A Finals, the next top 8 (places 9-16) will qualify for Consolation Finals. The next top 2 (places 17, 18) will be alternates for Finals. If you finish in the top 18 of any event, individual or a relay, you are expected to attend Finals on Saturday.
      • Swimmers may still swim in City Meet even if they are unavailable on Saturday. Please let Coach Scott know in advance if you are not attending Saturday Finals, so he can remove your swimmer from Finals in the event that he/she qualifies.
    • During Prelims, the girls will swim in the left pool, and the boys will swim in the right pool; from the perspective of the spectators. For Finals, all events will be in the right pool, and the left pool will be open for warm ups. The diving well will be open for warm ups only on Friday.
    • Things to bring to City Meet
      • Normal swim meet equipment: team suit, team cap, multiple goggles and a few towels.
      • Folding chairs.
      • Books, games, or other entertainment. There is a lot of downtime between events. Athletes should be relaxing while they wait to compete.
      • Healthy snacks and cold drinks. Athletes should only drink water or a sports drink (Gatorade) with water.
      • Money for heat sheets, typically $10 per day. More info on this to follow, but digital heat sheets may also be available closer to the meet via the City Meet web page.
      • Sharpie for marking your young swimmer’s arm. They need to know their Event number, Heat, and Lane. It is also helpful to write on their shoulder any of the following information: Last Name, Age, and Team - SAC. This helps the Clerk of Course workers identify swimmers and line them up correctly.
